Kalējala is one of the longest sandstone caves in Latvia, located on the right bank of the Strīkupīte River, near the Strīkupīte–Lenči road bridge. The cave is 46 meters long, up to 5.7 m wide, and 2 m high. Due to the soft sandstone structure, visitors should be especially cautious. A picnic area is located nearby, and Kalējala has been a protected geological and geomorphological monument of national importance since 1974. Scenes from the 1976 film In the Shadow of the Sword were filmed here. The cave is closed to visitors in winter as bats hibernate inside. In summer, it invites you to explore Latvia’s unique nature and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.
