The Rauna Gate was one of five medieval gates of the town of Cēsis, standing in the 14th–15th centuries at the beginning of what is now Rīgas Street. Important roads leading to Rauna, Alūksne, and Pskov passed through here. Although the original gate has not survived, its location is marked today by reconstructed foundation lines and historic paving, allowing visitors to imagine the scale and strength of the medieval city walls. The gate symbolically connects two parts of the city—the Old Town and Unity Square, which has become the city center. It is both an architectural and cultural site that lets visitors experience the historic spirit of Cēsis and connect with its defensive past.
