Independence Square in the heart of Pärnu is one of the most important historical public spaces in Estonia. Here stands a monument depicting the balcony of the Endla Theatre, from which Estonia’s Declaration of Independence was first read in 1918. Until 2018, the location was known as Rüütli Square. The square is paved with granite tiles and features modern lighting and a fountain. It is a place where the symbolism of freedom, the city's history, and contemporary architecture come together.
