The monument to writer, diplomat, and public figure Ignas Šeinius is a meaningful work of art initiated by the local community, especially educators. Created by renowned artist Henrikas Orakauskas, the sculpture speaks through a symbolic language of longing for one’s homeland, return, and a deep connection to Lithuania.
The bronze figure depicts a returning man. In his hand, he holds a small bird – a symbol of Lithuania’s soul, waiting for his return. Another bird on his shoulder brings a message from Sweden, where Šeinius lived and worked. The birdcage in his hands becomes a metaphor for fate – the challenges, responsibilities, and historical circumstances a person carries.
This is not only a monument to an individual but also a tribute to cultural identity and the experiences of exile, encouraging reflection on Lithuania, its people, and its history.
