The world’s first sculpture dedicated to Leonard Cohen – the famous Canadian singer, poet, and writer – has been unveiled in Vilnius. Although Cohen never visited Lithuania, his roots trace back to Vilnius and the Vilkaviškis district. His mother was the daughter of a renowned rabbi from Vilnius, and his paternal grandfather was born in Budviečiai. Cohen rose to fame as a poet and later as a musician. His song “Hallelujah” became a global classic. A concert in Lithuania had been planned, but due to poor health, it never took place. Cohen passed away in 2016, but his memory is preserved in this unique sculpture, symbolizing the artist’s connection to Lithuania.
