Located in Mažeikiai’s Old Town, "Ornament in Stone" is a unique exhibition featuring boulders engraved with Lithuanian ornaments, seamlessly blending into the surrounding environment. Sculptor Paulius Daujotas created these stone artworks to revive national art by adapting traditional ornaments to a contemporary space.
The creation process took six months, drawing inspiration from folk ornaments, some of which were based on 19th-century sculptor Steponas Gailevičius’ works. The boulders were carefully selected for their shape and texture, while the ornaments were engraved using traditional methods, preserving ancient forms and techniques.
This exhibition has become not only an artistic installation but also a part of cultural memory, now an inseparable element of the city.
