The "Amber Nautical Mile" Monument Stone in Smiltynė is not just a massive, six-ton boulder but also a unique symbol of sports. Sculptor Arūnas Sakalauskas artistically engraved the names of the winners of the international running competition "Amber Nautical Mile" on its surface. This prestigious event has been held since 2001, attracting hundreds of runners from around the world to Klaipėda each year. One of the race's initiators, athletics coach Mykolas Tumėnas, along with like-minded enthusiasts, aimed to create a distinctive coastal sports event. This led to the birth of a competition known not only for its scenic course but also for its strong international community.
