The sculpture "The Reading Man" depicts an elderly figure made of metal, standing on an old stone pavement reminiscent of the pre-war era. Created over two years by sculptor Henrikas Orakauskas, the artwork was installed in 1983 with the support of the city's chief artist, Vilius Puronas. This sculpture symbolizes cultural continuity and serves as a reminder of Šiauliai’s history as a significant center of publishing. Nearby stood the renowned A. Jakavičius bookstore, and the city was home to several printing houses. In 2005, to mark Šiauliai’s 769th anniversary, "The Reading Man" was restored by its creator.
