On Vilniaus Street in Šiauliai, in the busiest part of the city, stands the fountain-sculpture "Pelicans," created by Birutė Kasperavičienė in 1978. The sculpture depicts two pelicans cast in concrete and covered with gilded copper. According to legend, these pelicans got lost while flying south and landed in a puddle in Šiauliai, where they were turned into stones by an evil wizard. The fountain is one of the oldest in Šiauliai and was reconstructed in 2003. It has become an important part of the city's cultural landscape, attracting both locals and tourists.
