The Monument to the Litas and the Euro, located near Birštonas, is a unique and fascinating historical site that commemorates significant economic changes in Lithuania. For a long time, it was unclear who had erected this monument, but it was later revealed to have been created by Kęstutis Prakapas, a resident of Jiezno. Initially, during the Soviet era, a stone with the name of the Nemajūnai collective farm was placed at this location, but after Lithuania regained its independence, it remained as a symbol. Later, after the introduction of the euro, the monument was modified, with the litas and euro symbols engraved on the stone. This monument has become an important symbol, reminding us of both the restoration of Lithuania’s independence and the transition between currencies.
