Šiluva Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built between 1760 and 1775, is the last example of late Baroque sacred architecture in Lithuania with its original interior decor preserved. The church is famous for the miraculous painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and in 1976, Pope Paul VI granted it the title of Minor Basilica.
Šiluva is one of the five places in Europe where the apparition of Mary has been officially recognized by the Church. The interior, which features works by sculptor Mykolas Podhaiskis, is adorned with elements of late Baroque art. The basilica of Šiluva has become an important pilgrimage site, and its history and architecture stand as a testament to its significance in Lithuanian culture and religious life.
