Built in 1920, the Kernavė Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is an important religious and cultural landmark. The churchyard is adorned with 15 Stations of the Cross mosaics made from fieldstones, created by artist Jadvyga Griciūtė to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Lithuania’s Christianization.
The church grounds are also the resting place of priest Nikodemas Švogžlys-Milžinas. Kernavė is a place where Lithuania’s history and faith traditions intertwine, and this church stands as one of its enduring symbols.
