The Zalavas Manor Estate, built in the 19th century and partially renovated in the early 20th century, held a significant place in Polish history as the birthplace of the famous Polish Marshal Józef Piłsudski (1867-1935). Since 1863, the manor was owned by the Piłsudski family. Tragedy struck in 1875 when the manor burned down, leading to a change of ownership. In 1935, at the initiative of the Polish government, the manor's foundations were restored, along with the renovation of the office, former bakery and forge buildings, and the old smokehouse. The bakery was converted into a museum and reading room showcasing J. Piłsudski's works, becoming a cultural hub. During the Soviet era, despite efforts to restore the estate, it was destroyed. However, its historical and cultural value remains unforgettable.
