The Sculpture for the Battle of Durbe is a monument dedicated to one of the most significant historical events, which had great importance not only for Samogitia but also for the entire Eastern Baltic region. On July 13, 1260, during the Battle of Durbe, a united Samogitian tribal army defeated the powerful armies of Livonia, Prussia, Denmark, and Sweden, led by the garrison of Tallinn and the Swedish crown prince Charles. This victory determined the course of the region's history, sparked the uprising of the Prussian tribes, and contributed to the liberation of the Zemgalians and Curonians.
The sculpture was created by Algirdas Bosas, with the architectural concept implemented by Professor Algirdas Žebrauskas. The column's decoration was designed by blacksmith Virginijus Mikuckis, the map was created by Professor Romualdas Inčirauskas, and the craftsman was Rimantas Mickevičius.
