The Tauragė Martynas Mažvydas Evangelical Lutheran Church is an important historical and cultural landmark, completed in 1843 and designed by architect Karolis Gregotovičius. After World War I, the church was rebuilt in 1938, although its architecture was altered. This change reflects not only the consequences of the war but also the religious and cultural shifts in Tauragė. In 1947, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first Lithuanian book, the church was named after Martynas Mažvydas, honoring the contributions of this prominent figure to Lithuanian culture and education. In 1987, copper sculptures of Martynas Mažvydas and Martin Luther were placed at the central entrance of the church, created by Tauragė folk artist Antanas Bagdonas. These sculptures became the first representations of reformers and educators in Lithuania, further emphasizing the church's significance both religiously and culturally.
