The Monument to Vincas Kudirka is an important symbol of Lithuanian culture and history, erected in 1928 near Tauragė, by the former district office. The monument was created by the renowned sculptor J. Zikaras and commemorates one of the most important figures of the Lithuanian nation – Vincas Kudirka, who contributed to the national movement and the strengthening of national identity. Unfortunately, in 1968, the monument was destroyed, but the valuable bust survived and was preserved thanks to the efforts of the head of the cultural department, J. Šimkus. Later, in 1990, folk artist A. Bagdonas initiated the restoration of the monument, and the preserved bust of V. Kudirka was placed back on the pedestal, symbolizing the unity of the nation and the struggle for freedom.
