The St. Peter and Paul Church of New Žagarė is one of the most important historical landmarks of Žagarė, built between 1643 and 1655. It is part of a complex of regionally significant buildings, which includes a chapel, a wayside shrine, and a fence surrounding the cemetery with chapels representing the Stations of the Cross.

The church, featuring Renaissance and Baroque architectural elements, is known for its monumental size and the austere beauty of its stone and brick masonry. Inside, there are five wooden altars, including the main altar, which is considered a masterpiece of Classicism. The windows are adorned with unique Art Nouveau stained glass, created in Warsaw in 1910, and the walls are decorated with paintings of the Stations of the Cross. The church also houses sacred paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries and a gilded sculpture of the Crucified Christ.

This church is part of the St. Peter and Paul Church complex of New Žagarė, which is recognized as a regionally significant archaeological, architectural, and artistic monument (code 43298). The complex includes the church itself, a chapel, a wayside shrine, and a cemetery fence with chapels representing the Stations of the Cross. The wooden church of New Žagarė was first mentioned in the late 16th century, but the current stone structure was built between 1643 and 1655. This two-slope roofed building, constructed with field stones and bricks, features elements of Renaissance
and Baroque styles, emphasizing the austere and monumental character of the structure. The interior of the church is remarkable for its five wooden altars, with the main altar, in the Classical style, being one of the most artistic in Lithuania. The windows are adorned with Art Nouveau-style stained glass created in 1910 in Warsaw by master Jan Gumowski, renowned for their artistic elegance. The walls are decorated with paintings of the Stations of the Cross, and one of the altars is enhanced with a gilded sculpture of the Crucified Christ, considered a local artistic monument. The church also houses sacred paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, valuable both from an artistic and historical perspective.
