Katyčiai Market Square, located near the church and at the crossroads of several roads, began to be paved with stones in 1906. Once adorned with brick buildings ranging from one to three stories high, the square was a vibrant center of trade and social life. However, after the war, the destruction of homesteads and neglect during the Soviet era led to the decline of most of these structures. During the years of independence, abandoned three-story buildings were demolished. It wasn’t until 2005 that Katyčiai’s historic center was included in the Lithuanian Cultural Heritage Register, although its value was not detailed.

Katyčiai Market Square served as the historical heart of the town, situated at the crossroads of roads leading to Degutiai, Stubriai, and Mediškiai, near the church. Paving work began in 1906, establishing the square as a hub for local trade and social gatherings. It was surrounded by ornate brick buildings, standing as a key part of Katyčiai's identity for decades. However, the post-war destruction of homesteads and Soviet neglect took a heavy toll on Katyčiai. The old buildings, despite their resilience, eventually deteriorated. After Lithuania regained independence in 1990,
Katyčiai suffered further losses as the abandoned three-story buildings in the market square were demolished. It was only in 2005 that Katyčiai’s historic center was officially recognized and included in the Cultural Heritage Register of the Republic of Lithuania. While this designation offered some protection, the details of its value were not fully assessed, leaving many aspects of its heritage underappreciated. Today, Katyčiai Market Square stands as a testament to the town’s historical evolution—from a flourishing period to the changes that reshaped its character.
