The "Crane" monument stands in a picturesque location on Parakaunyčia Hill, offering a panoramic view of Švėkšna. This historic hill holds significant events: in 1831, it was the campsite of General F. Roland’s insurgent army, and in 1948, people destined for Siberian exile were temporarily held in a barn here. These dates are commemorated on stone plaques.
The 34-ton monument depicts hands reaching toward a crane in flight, symbolizing freedom and hope. The sculpture was forged from metal by blacksmiths Darius and Aida Viliai, with the concept created by Petras Stanislovas. The monument is dedicated to the Millennium of Lithuania’s name and commemorates the sacrifices of the nation.
