The Church of the Crucified Jesus in Kintai, located just one kilometer from the Curonian Lagoon, is one of the most notable attractions in the town, drawing many tourists each year. This Evangelical Lutheran church, built in 1705, is distinguished by its unique architecture—a towerless 18th-century East Prussian structure featuring elements reminiscent of Gothic buildings from the Teutonic Order. According to legend, the church was constructed following a dispute between residents of Ventė and Kiošiai, who decided to build it where their emissaries would meet—in Kintai. During the Soviet
era, the church was converted into a warehouse, but in 1987, it was restored and transformed into a cultural center where concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural events were held. The church also holds historical importance as the site where the Lithuanian tricolor was first displayed before independence was restored. Today, Kintai Church is a popular destination for weddings, with its romantic atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings attracting many couples. In recent years, it has become a cultural hub, hosting prestigious music festivals that draw guests from Lithuania and abroad.
