The Marčiakalnis Hillfort is one of the newest discoveries. While many hillforts are already known, Marčiakalnis remained unnoticed for a long time due to being overgrown with trees. However, in 2015, two new hillforts were discovered in Padaigai, and now three hillforts are known in this area. This hillfort, dating back to the 1st millennium, is located on a promontory formed by the intersection of the Neris River valley and the Alka ravine on the right bank.
The Alka ravine and the site itself may hold special significance, as some historians believe the name Alka could indicate the presence of an ancient sacred site that may have existed here. The discovery of this hillfort proves that Lithuania still hides unnoticed historical monuments, whose stories are worth exploring. The Marčiakalnis Hillfort has enriched the list of known hillforts in Lithuania and contributes to the preservation of our cultural heritage.
