The Jonava Regional Museum and Tourist Information Center are housed in the historic Jonava Horse Post Station, an architectural complex established in the 19th century as part of the St. Petersburg–Warsaw Route. This route connected Jonava to Kaunas, Ukmergė, and other cities. The buildings, constructed between 1833 and 1835, feature Doric columns and classical architectural elements.

In 1905, a fire severely damaged the complex, but after reconstruction, it became an integral part of the city’s cultural heritage. Since 1992, the site has hosted the Jonava Regional Museum, which offers archaeological and historical exhibits, educational programs, and rotating exhibitions. Admission is free.

The Jonava Regional Museum and Tourist Information Center are located in a unique 19th-century architectural complex that once served as an essential infrastructure element of the St. Petersburg–Warsaw Route. This route linked Jonava’s post station to Kaunas, Ukmergė, Daugavpils, and other regional cities. Construction of the post station began in 1833–1835, with its architecture adorned by Doric columns, a portico, and other classical features. Classified as a third-class station in the 19th century, the facility included restrooms, stables, and storage buildings. It hosted high-ranking passengers, including members of
the Tsar’s family. By 1844, the station housed 25 horses, increasing to 51 by 1860. After the 1905 fire, the complex underwent reconstruction, achieving its current appearance. During World War I, the station was heavily damaged. In the interwar period, the main building housed the Jonava post office and telegraph. Over time, the building served various purposes until 1992, when it became home to the Jonava Regional Museum. Today, visitors can explore permanent archaeological exhibitions, ethnography and history sections, participate in educational activities, and enjoy temporary exhibitions. Admission to the museum is free.
