Gižai Manor is a unique historical site, parts of which have survived to this day. In the 18th century, the manor belonged to Antoni Michał Chmara, Voivode of Minsk, who built the wooden Gižai Church. The estate included a brickworks, a distillery, a brewery, and a windmill. By the early 19th century, the manor spanned 1,600 hectares, encompassing the Gižai and Marijanavas farms and nearby villages.
From 1922 to 1930, the manor housed the Sejny Priests’ Seminary, which was later relocated, and the premises were converted into a school. During the interwar period, the manor was purchased by banker Jonas Vailokaitis, who gifted it to his sister, who, along with her husband, managed the estate. The preserved brick granary, authentic park bridges, and the old linden tree are part of this historical heritage. Gižai Manor is an excellent place to explore Lithuanian history.
