Vagner Palace (Šalčininkai Manor)

The Vagner Palace is the most significant cultural heritage site in Šalčininkai, with a history spanning over six centuries. The manor is first mentioned in written sources in the 14th century. Its initial owners were the Glebavičiai family, followed by the Chodkevičiai family. In 1835, the estate was acquired by Vilnius pharmacists, Counts Martynas and Karolis Vagneris. In 1880, Vitold Vagneris built a two-story Neo-Renaissance palace with two porticos. Architect Hetšold connected the new structure with the older part built by the Chodkevičiai, where he created a service wing for the staff.
During the interwar period, the manor flourished under Vitold’s son, Karolis. The Vagner estate became a model farm, frequently visited by foreign delegations. The palace interior still features valuable tiled stoves and the famous "Golden Hall." Today, the building houses the Stanisław Moniuszko School of Arts, reflecting the cultural significance of the palace.
