The Eišiškės Hillfort marks the site of a 14th–15th century brick castle that defended the eastern borders of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Mentioned in the 16th century as one of the oldest Lithuanian castles, it featured tower-style architecture typical of the 13th century in Volhynia and the Upper Nemunas region.
