In the Salantai region, tragic events took place here during the summer of 1941, when the women and children of the Salantai Jewish community were murdered. According to the Atlas of the Holocaust in Lithuania, 95 victims are buried here. Behind the mound, in 1980, a wooden sculpture created by folk artist J. Bunkos was erected, depicting a Jew standing with bound hands, symbolizing the scale of the tragedy and honoring the memory of the victims. This site stands as a testament to a painful chapter of Lithuania's history, inviting visitors to remember, respect, and learn from the lessons of the past.
