In the Kretinga Manor Park stands the legendary Stone of Love. Its surface is carved like a bench, and it is said that Empress Catherine II of Russia and her favorite, Platon Zubov, used to sit on this stone. Although Zubov managed the manor after the empress's death, the romantic tale has endured to this day. It is said that sitting on the stone brings love, strengthens relationships, or even revives lost feelings.
More practical explanations suggest that in the 19th century, the stone served as part of a fountain. Later, after the fountain was dismantled, the stone was moved deeper into the park and turned into a bench—one side wider for two people, and the other narrower, made for a single visitor.
