Near Kūlupėnai, above the Salantas River, stands an impressive engineering structure – a reinforced concrete bridge built in 1932. It is the highest bridge in Samogitia and the second longest in the region. The bridge spans nearly 113 meters in length and rises 27.5 meters in height. During the interwar period, its construction was entrusted to a Danish company, which oversaw the construction of the Telšiai-Kretinga railway line, connecting Kaunas with the port of Klaipėda.
The bridge’s structure is supported by two masonry piers, ensuring its stability. Although challenges were faced during its construction – a portion of the embankment slid and was repaired – the bridge has smoothly served its purpose ever since. This towering bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also an intriguing architectural landmark, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts alike.
