Kalno Grikštų II Hillfort

The Kalno Grikštų II hillfort, located on the promontory of a highland, captivates not only with its history but also with its impressive surroundings. To the north and south, it is bordered by deep, spring-fed ravines, while to the west, a wide view of the Minija River valley opens up. This hillfort dates back to the 1st millennium – the beginning of the 2nd millennium – and is considered a defensive stronghold of the Curonian tribe of Ceklia, where a wooden fortress once stood.
Today, the hillfort is covered by a forest, and its surface has been damaged by long-term plowing and pits. Despite this, the site remains authentic and valuable both historically and from a landscape perspective.
