St. George's Chapel, located in the Old Cemetery of Kretinga, is a unique historical monument, restored according to the design of architect Edmundas Giedrimas. Originally built as a wooden chapel in the early 19th century, it was later replaced by a stone structure that served as a place for the burial of the deceased. In 1891, the famous owner of Kretinga Manor and founder of the Palanga resort, Count Juozapas Tiškevičius, was buried here, and his sarcophagus was later moved to the Tiškevičiai family chapel-mausoleum. In 1941, after the church was damaged by fire, the chapel briefly served as a temporary place of worship. Unfortunately, towards the end of World War II, the Soviets destroyed the chapel. After many years, during the period of independence, this important cultural site was rebuilt, symbolizing the restored history of Kretinga.
