The historic graves and monuments in Kretinga tell the story of the region’s past. Here rest 19th-century Franciscan monks and botanist, Father J. A. Pabrėža, whose grave has been adorned with a small chapel since 1933. Also buried here is Bishop Motiejus Valančius’ brother, Father Mykolas Valančius.
Near the St. George Chapel, built in the early 19th century, lies the grave of the local historian and founder of the Kretinga Museum, Ignas Jablonskis. Not far away, the grave of the state figure, General V. Nagius-Nagevičius, and his family can be found. The grave of the "Kardas" unit resistance fighters of the Kretinga district preserves the memory of the fighters, and a monument, erected in 1988 and designed by Edmundas Giedrimas, commemorates the suffering of the Lithuanian people.
