The Erškėtyno Spring, which gushes from the site of the former pagan temple, has long been known for its healing properties. It is believed that the spring water is particularly beneficial for eyesight – it is used to wash the face and eyes. Next to the spring stands a brick chapel, built in 1930, which became a symbol of Christian culture in this area. The chapel commemorates an event from 1926, when the Virgin Mary appeared to Barbara Pocienė, a resident of Lazdininkai, on the stone from which the spring flows.
This place is special not only for the faithful but also for travelers seeking peace. During Pentecost, hymns and prayers to the Virgin Mary are sung here. Surrounding the chapel, a hill of crosses continuously forms – a symbol of gratitude and prayer from the faithful. The Erškėtyno Spring is not only a center of pilgrimage but also a unique place that invites visitors to embrace the spirit of Samogitia.
