In the village of Abakai stands a unique Lourdes grotto and chapel, inspired by a dream of local resident Kazimieras Navirauskas. In 1921, he dreamed of the Virgin Mary by a spring and Jesus Christ on a hill. The dream repeated itself, prompting Kazimieras to take action – he built the grotto near his homestead and erected a wooden chapel.
The Lourdes grotto is adorned with a statue of the Virgin Mary brought from France, while on the chapel's hill stands a statue of Christ carrying a cross, donated by the priest of Švėkšna. The altar inside, relocated from the Budriai Church, dates back to the 18th century. A spring that flows near the grotto is known for its healing properties, and the site has become an important attraction for both pilgrims and tourists.
