Kretinga Manor boasts significant historical events, including the establishment of the first hydroelectric power station in Lithuania. In 1878, Count Juozapas Tiškevičius installed an electric generator at the manor's watermill, which illuminated the Winter Garden and the manor itself. However, the watermill has an even longer history, dating back to the 17th century. The building impressively reflects various historical periods, with stone and brick masonry and Fachwerk construction from the Tiškevičiai era.
The Tiškevičiai family used the mill not only for technological innovations but also for industrial purposes – during the interwar period, it housed an oil refinery and a confectionery workshop. Today, visitors can enjoy traditional handmade sweets and visit the ethnographic exhibition "Saulės ratu" on the upper floor of the mill, which showcases the way of life of rural inhabitants.
