Petras Būtėnas was a pioneer of the Lithuanian language and ethnology, known for his studies of dialects, place names, and prepositions, as well as his contribution to the creation of the Lithuanian language dictionary. He was the headmaster of the Panevėžys Boys' Gymnasium (now Juozas Balčikonis Gymnasium) and built a house on Jakšto Street, where his archive is preserved. Visitors, upon agreement with the owners, can explore this historical material.
