The hillfort, located in the center of Ukmergė, stands at the confluence of the Šventoji River and the Vilkmergelė Stream. The slopes are steep, and the height reaches 16 meters. This ancient defensive site was used as early as the first millennium AD. In the early 13th century, a wooden castle stood here, which was burned down in 1391 after battles between Vytautas and Jogaila against the Teutonic Knights.
