On the edge of the Kretinga Tiškevičiai Manor Park, visitors will find an extraordinary landmark – the Astronomical Calendar with a Sundial. Built in 2002, it was the first of its kind in the Baltic States. This unique project, designed by architect Rita Gorodeckienė as her graduation thesis, combines human creativity, elements of Lithuanian culture, and craftsmanship with wood, metal, and stone.
The idea for the calendar was inspired by the oldest sundial in Lithuania, built in 1610 at the Kretinga Franciscan Monastery. Although the old sundial is no longer functional, the Astronomical Calendar successfully tracks the passage of time. Spanning half a hectare, the site features stones, 13 impressive oak sculptures, and a 6-meter-high sundial gnomon, creating a memorable destination where history, art, and natural beauty intertwine.
