The Church of St. Bartholomew was founded in 1650 by Kazimieras Leonas Sapiega as a branch of the Merkinė parish, meaning it was not a parish church. In 1676, Mykolas Paca commissioned the construction of a new church, and in 1762, a wooden house of worship was built on this site. Unfortunately, neither this church nor the original one has survived to the present day.
In 1910, under the care of Father Pranciškus Bernotas and with donations from parishioners and benefactors, the church was rebuilt, brought back to life, and reopened to the faithful community. Following the restoration, it became an important center of religious life, preserving its historical traditions and spiritual significance.
