In the center of Druskininkai, in the square between the church and the city museum, stands the sculpture Sūrutis, symbolizing the legend of the resort's origin. Created by renowned metal artist Romualdas Inčirauskas, Sūrutis depicts a 180 cm tall standing man holding a bowl of salt in his left hand and a small horse in his right. According to legend, this horse was the first "patient" healed by the mineral water marshes, a miraculous event that marked the beginning of the resort.
The man's attire is stylized to reflect historical costume elements of the time. The sculpture’s pedestal is covered with red ceramic bricks and encircled by a bronze band engraved with the text narrating the legend.
