In the Darbaliai Forest, a monumental cross and commemorative plaque honor the partisans of the Kardo Unit of the Žemaičiai District who were killed on June 3, 1950. Among them were the unit leader Juozas Paulauskas, chief of staff Kazimieras Martinkus, and partisans Justinas Rimkus, Leonora Viluckaitė, and Vytautas Zaleckas. The memorial also commemorates Stasys Lisauskas, a staff member killed on February 7, 1949, in the Žibininkai Village Forest.
This memorial was erected in 1995 through the initiative of Stanislovas Burba and Adolfas Kontrimas, the latter of whom designed the cross. The monument symbolizes the sacrifices made in the fight for Lithuania’s freedom and serves as an important site for historical remembrance.
