On Mokyklos Street (Mokyklos St. 4) in the town of Kartena stands a memorial stone dedicated to the partisans of the Žemaičiai Region Kardo Detachment's Bugantas Unit. These freedom fighters, who perished between 1946 and 1953, were buried in the courtyard of the former NKVD-MVD-MGB headquarters located at this site. The memorial symbolizes the heroic struggle against the Soviet regime and honors the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Lithuania's independence.
The memorial was erected in 1991 through the initiative of Juozapas Antanas Viluckas. Today, it stands as a significant historical landmark, reminding visitors of the hardships and battles fought for Lithuania's freedom.
