Liudiškiai Hill, once a barren and sandy area known as Anykščiai’s "Sahara," became the final resting place of Lithuanian writer Jonas Biliūnas. The location was chosen by writer Antanas Žukauskas-Vienuolis, who often visited the hill. Born in 1879 near Anykščiai, Biliūnas passed away in 1907 in Zakopane, Poland. In 1953, his remains were reinterred on this hill, and in 1958, a 14-meter-high monument, designed by architect Vytautas Gabriūnas, was erected in his honor.

Biliūnas’ short story "The Beacon of Happiness" tells of a miraculous inscription on a beacon that promised happiness to all. However, the brave seeker who found the beacon would turn to stone. This tale and the monument on Liudiškiai Hill symbolize the writer’s enduring legacy and his contributions to Lithuanian literature.
