Research reveals that a wooden defensive castle stood here during the 3rd–5th centuries. The hillfort was constructed on the edge of the upper terrace of the Šventoji River, in a place known as Aruodai, atop a separate hill. Its oval, flat platform is surrounded by steep slopes ranging from 6 to 17 meters in height.
Archaeological excavations conducted in 1990 uncovered remnants of a cultural layer, including corded and rough ceramics, fragments of wooden fortifications, and a stone-paved floor. The hillfort is dated to the beginning of the 1st millennium.
