Marimontas Serpentine, often called the “mountain of death,” is a legendary site known for its steep slopes and a never-freezing spring that made the road here slippery and dangerous. According to legend, many lives were lost in this treacherous spot during winter.
In the second half of the 19th century, Marimontas estate was established as part of the Antazavė Manor. The site featured a dam, a mill, a sawmill, and a wool carding workshop. Wool cloth was felted and yarn spun here, and the industrial activity continued even after World War II. Unfortunately, a fire in 1946 or 1947 destroyed the buildings. Today, only fragments of the stone masonry and the old cobblestone pavement remain.
