In addition to founding secret schools, he organized Lithuanian plays, supported cultural societies, and collected folklore. In 1893, the first clandestine Lithuanian play, "Nepadėjus nėr ko kasti" by Vaižgantas, was performed in the village of Naujikai under his initiative.
