The Church of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist in Rokiškis is an impressive neo-Gothic sanctuary built between 1866 and 1885. The construction was initiated by Count Reinold Tyzenhauz and completed by his sister Maria Pšezdzieckienė. The church's beauty lies both in its exterior and interior: a 56.5-meter tower, ornate stained-glass windows, a 24-voice organ, and an underground chapel where members of the prominent Tyzenhauz, Krošinski, and Pšezdziecki families rest. The church also houses a unique drum, gifted by Tyzenhauz in 1877, which once again resounds during festive Masses after 30 years of silence. This church is not only a religious site but also a historical and architectural gem of Rokiškis.

The construction of the church, believed to have cost a million rubles, was described by the Tyzenhauz family as an expense "known only to God." Its architectural highlights include the towering spire, exquisite stained-glass windows, a majestic altar, meticulously carved wooden details, and the grand organ. Statues of the Tyzenhauz family and other nobles within the church testify to the aristocracy's contributions to its creation. The underground chapel serves as the final resting place for members of the Krošinski, Tyzenhauz, and Pšezdziecki
families, who played a pivotal role in Rokiškis's history. The church also features an extraordinary drum, a replica of a 1673 trophy from the Battle of Khotyn, gifted by Reinold Tyzenhauz in 1877. Restored in 2013, the drum now echoes during Holy Week, symbolizing festive traditions. The Church of St. Matthew is more than a place of worship; it is a hub of history and culture. Its stained-glass windows fill the interior with vibrant light on sunny spring days, and the tower offers visitors a stunning panorama of Rokiškis.
