Alksniai Hillfort

This hillfort, also known as the Onuškis Hillfort, is situated on a hill along the eastern shore of Lake Apvalasas. The oval, elongated platform has a slightly raised middle, with its eastern part elevated by 1 meter. Archaeological findings of smooth and corded ceramic fragments indicate the presence of an ancient settlement. On the eastern slope, 1.5 meters below the platform, lies a 7-meter-wide terrace. The slopes are steep, rising up to 15 meters high, except on the eastern side, which is lower. The southern slope has been damaged by a gravel pit.
Currently, the hillfort is covered with deciduous trees, adding to its natural charm. The site is dated from the 1st millennium BCE to the beginning of the 1st millennium CE. This is a significant cultural heritage site, inviting history and nature enthusiasts to explore this archaeological monument.
