Sąjūdžio Square

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's independence, the square next to the Rokiškis Cultural Center was named Sąjūdžio Square. This idea was proposed by public health specialist and active Sąjūdis member Paulius Gaigalas. On the wall of the cultural center, a recognizable emblem of the Lithuanian Sąjūdis was placed with an inscription that recalls the historical event: "On this square, the first Sąjūdis rally took place on 1988 09 09." Sąjūdžio Square has become an important symbol of Rokiškis' history, inviting both locals and tourists to remember the history of Lithuania's fight for freedom and to feel the spirit of national revival.
