The post-war partisan resistance is a heroic yet tragic chapter in Lithuania's history. One of the most significant events occurred on December 12, 1944, when approximately 300 partisans from the districts of Biržai, Rokiškis, and Panevėžys, led by K. Kalpokas, launched an attack in Panemunis (Pandėlys subdistrict). In the post-war years, the bodies of partisans tortured and killed by the Soviets were buried in Panemunis. In memory of these fallen heroes, a majestic five-meter-tall monument titled "Angel," spanning eight meters wide, was unveiled in 2003. The monument was designed by architect A. Paslaitis, with the sculpture crafted by K. Kisielis. This site has become an important historical landmark and a popular destination for tourists seeking to connect with Lithuania's poignant past.
