Vaidatoniai Hillfort

This hillfort, located on a promontory between the Kruostas River and its tributary Virškautis, features a triangular-shaped site measuring 45 meters in length. A 28-meter-long, 2-meter-high, and 21-meter-wide embankment rises on the site. The 14-meter-high slopes are steep, facing the valleys of Kruostas and its tributary Skaudinys. The northern part of the site also has an embankment. The hillfort has been significantly impacted by human activity; it once hosted the village cemetery, now marked by a wooden cross, and its slopes are covered with trees due to surrounding agricultural practices. Locals refer to this site as "Žalnierka," stemming from the word "žalnierius," meaning "soldier," as it is believed soldiers were buried here. The history of the hillfort dates back to the beginning of the 1st–2nd millennium. Near the hillfort, there is also an Old Believers' cemetery.
